Engineering Writer
DPP is seeking an Engineering Writer for an opportunity with our client in the Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing industry.
Work location:
Onsite in Elkridge, MD
Work schedule:
9x80 A
Duration: 12 months
Terms:
W2 contract
Work authorization: US Citizen; must hold a US DoD Secret clearance
Position summary:
We are looking for Engineering Writers to join our client's high-performing team in developing engineering documentation for advanced military systems. These include radars for F-22, F-35, Joint Strike Fighter, F-16, B-1B, MESA, G/ATOR and VADER and other UAV systems.
Successful candidates will have excellent communications and interpersonal skills, be proactive, possess excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, and be self-motivated.
Responsibilities:
- Writes, rewrites and/or edits engineering documents such as technical procedure manuals, test requirement documents (TRDs), user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical information and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
- Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
- Conducts quality review of materials.
- Publish materials in various formats, including page-based, electronic (basic and interactive), structured (HTML, XML, and SGML).
- Collaborate with task leads, writers, engineers, and instructors, to develop and deliver sensor/system technical manuals to varying levels of detail and delivery formats.
- Perform Desktop Publishing tasks for program/project reports, whitepapers, articles, and other documents.
- Research and compile information from program documents, engineering sources, et al. to develop manual outlines and adhere to military/civilian specifications and standards of engineering technical writing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline or related field
- OR, Military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks and information technology
-based sensors/systems - Engineering background or equivalent military background
- Expert knowledge with MS Office Products
- Proven ability to manage several tasks simultaneously
- Excellent attention to detail
- Possess and maintain Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
- Self-starter and engaged team member
Preferred qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years' engineering writing experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience with structured authoring applications, such as:
Arbortext, Mad Cap Flare, or Frame Maker - Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100)
- Knowledge of standards – XML, SGML, HTML, S1000D and DITA for structured Content
- Possess and maintain Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
