Staff Electronics Engineer

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Staff Electronics Engineer based out of Elkridge, MD.

Position Overview

The Staff Electronics Engineer will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for all legacy test sets and the associated legacy program, including hardware, software, fixtures, procedures, and configuration control. This role provides risk‑based management of test set hardware and software, ensures reliable and compliant operation, and leads verification and validation (V&V) for new and upgraded equipment.

The engineer will partner with facilities, procurement, quality, manufacturing, and engineering to support plant‑wide initiatives, cross‑program needs, and special projects. This position is also responsible for defining and executing the long‑term roadmap for test set modernization and obsolescence management and communicating impacts to program leadership.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related STEM discipline with 12 years of relevant experience with electronic test systems, including hardware, software, fixtures, and automated test equipment;
    Master's degree with 10 years of relevant experience with electronic test systems, including hardware, software, fixtures, and automated test equipment
  • Experience with root‑cause analysis, CAPA, and test failure resolution in a production, depot, or sustainment environment
  • Experience with common electronic test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, DMMs, logic analyzers)
  • Experience managing configuration and changes for complex test systems (hardware, software, and procedures)
  • Experience leading cross‑functional efforts and providing technical direction to other engineers and/or technicians
  • Experience explaining complex issues to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Current/Active U.S. Government Secret Level Security Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as an SME for legacy or obsolescent test equipment, including modernization and obsolescence management strategies
  • Background with environmental and reliability test infrastructure (e.g., thermal chambers, vibration tables, ovens, cooling systems)
  • Experience with formal risk management for test equipment and operations (risk registers, mitigation planning, and reporting)
  • Familiarity with V&V of test systems and test software, including formal test plans, procedures, and reports
  • Experience coordinating equipment relocations or facility moves, including logistics, requalification, and documentation updates
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following:
    Lab Windows/LabVIEW/CVI, C/C++, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools used in test automation and data analysis
  • Experience integrating test data into higher‑level analytics, dashboards, or digital thread initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians
