Diesel Mechanic Technician

Position Description

Ryder is hiring a Senior Level Diesel Technician in Elkton, Maryland — offering weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a Technician career you can feel good about.

• Hourly Pay: $30.00 per hour
• Certification Bonus of $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained, up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, weekends OFF
• Hours:
  
  Second Shift 3:00 pm–11:30 pm

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including standard and preventive maintenance.
• Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers when applicable.
• Complete detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision.
• Replace defective components as instructed.
• Work unsupervised on most tasks and perform facility maintenance duties.
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once a task is assigned.
• Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation.
• Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT).
• Act as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels.
• Access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
• Perform other support duties as required, such as Service Island support.
• SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
  220).
• Complete two OEM Online diagnostic scan tool software courses as required within 365 days.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational or technical certification; post-secondary degree or technical certifications preferred.
• Basic tools required.
• Experience and aptitude in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake, tire work).
• Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems.
• Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred.
• All other certifications as required by location.
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment.
• Computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test, DOT physical, road test, and Background & Motor Vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification for the last 3 years).
