Position

Central Washington University is recruiting a Visiting Assistant Professor to join the Mathematics department team in Ellensburg, Washington. The position is a 9‑month temporary, non‑tenure‑track appointment with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities

Face‑to‑face teaching of courses primarily for mathematics majors, potentially including courses in the precalculus and calculus sequences, linear algebra, differential equations, discrete mathematics, statistics, mathematical modeling, and numerical analysis.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate by September 15, 2026, in one of the following fields:
    • Mathematics
    • Applied Mathematics
    • Actuarial Science
    • Statistics
  • Excellent teaching abilities.
  • Willingness to teach a wide range of courses at all levels.
  • Teaching, research, service or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU's commitment to the engagement of students from a variety of backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience or interest in applied mathematics or actuarial science.
  • College or university teaching experience.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment and/or utilizing a variety of teaching methods designed for broad student success.
  • Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote student success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students through teaching and/or mentoring activities.
  • Accountability/Dependability: Accepts responsibility for quality of own work; acknowledges and corrects mistakes; shows up on time, meets standards, deadlines, and work schedules.
  • Judgement: Makes timely, informed decisions; analyzes options and determines appropriate course of action.

Salary and Work Schedule

Annual Salary
: $62,000 — $68,785, based on a full‑time nine‑month appointment. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Appointment:
Temporary, Non‑Tenure‑Track, 9‑Month. Additional summer teaching may be available. Central Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments from mid‑September through mid‑June.
