Head Custodian, Ida Nason Elementary, 8 hrs a day, 260 days a year REPORT TO:
Maintenance/Custodial Director
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Maintenance/Custodial Director and the School Principal, in addition to regularly assigned duties, leads and directs custodial personnel in their daily custodial activities at the assigned Ellensburg School District facility. Performs a variety of skilled tasks to create and maintain a safe and comfortable working environment for students, staff, parents and the general public. This position may include, but not be limited to, the following performance responsibilities, qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities and requires manual work relating to efficient performance of general cleaning and routine maintenance task.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Head Custodian leads the custodial personnel and participates in the general cleaning and maintaining of the school facilities.
- Directs and assigns routine and additional tasks to the custodial personnel including facility requests, trouble calls, minor maintenance, and special cleaning services, etc. as needed or directed by the Maintenance/Custodial Director.
- Assumes responsibility for the general security of the building.
- Assumes responsibility for the general fire security of the building.
- Assists in ordering custodial supplies and materials as needed and maintains necessary inventories.
- Monitors and reviews routine task completion assigned to custodial staff to ensure quality control.
- Supervises and assists with extensive summer and holiday cleaning programs.
- Participates as a lead role in identifying, evaluating and implementing projects in the facility.
- Responds to emergencies and trouble calls as needed.
- Replace burned out light bulbs and ballast when needed. Must be able to do some minor electrical and plumbing.
- Checks for vandalism daily and notifies Principal and or Police depending on the situation of all vandalism to the facility.
- Occasionally you may have to modify your duties to clean areas of the facility due to lack of personnel.
- Seasonally, helps with small watering chores where needed and in winter helps to remove snow from the steps, walks and entrances to the various buildings.
- Consults with Principal daily for special assignments and related matters.
- Performs related tasks at the direction of Maintenance/Custodial Director.
- Knowledge of custodial and safety procedures
- Must have a basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing.
- Previous successful experience with supervision and leadership.
- Skills in verbal and written communications.
- Ability to interact positively and confidently with students, staff and the general public.
- Monitors and reviews routine task completion assigned to custodial staff to ensure quality control.
- Remains flexible under changing needs and circumstances; effectively communicates and cooperates with custodial personnel and building staff to meet needs and accomplish work-related task.

- Must be able to perform assignments with a very small amount of supervision.
- Must be physically able to climb ladders (either step ladders or extension ladders to a height of 40 feet or the use of the district Genie Lifts.)
- Must be able to lift and carry object up to 50 lbs. in weight.
- Ability to be flexible, organized and manage time effectively.
- Must maintain neat, clean personal appearance.
