Glenelg Country School (GCS) is an independent day school serving students age 2 – grade 12. Our mission is to cultivate a diverse community of learners who discover, contribute, thrive, and excel.
The Lower School seeks a full-time Music teacher for the school year. The ideal candidate is an energetic and creative educator who demonstrates enthusiasm for working with elementary age students, possesses a passion for music, and contributes to a positive culture with a strong emphasis on building strong relationships with students, staff, and the GCS community. The Lower School Music Teacher provides general music instruction and directs the Lower School choirs.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide engaging general music instruction with age-appropriate curricular for each grade using the National Core Arts Standards for Music.
- Emphasize music literacy, including singing, reading, writing, listening, and movement.
- Direct and develop elementary choir programs with healthy, age-appropriate vocal techniques for all singers.
- Assess and evaluate student progress.
- Create an environment that actively promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion and fosters a sense of belonging and respect for all.
- Collaborate with other teachers on interdisciplinary units and special projects with other subject areas.
- Foster cross-divisional collaboration across the Primary, Middle, and Upper schools.
- Embrace professional growth and development.
- Engage fully in the life of the school.
- A B.A. or B.S. in music education required.
- Experience teaching general music for elementary school students.
- Experience in elementary choir development and direction
- Knowledge of music software programs to create teaching materials, write simple arrangements, and support instruction.
- Recognize the importance of learning and motivate others by own enthusiasm.
- Proficient with Office 365 and related Microsoft applications or similar; ability to maintain course pages and online gradebook within the Student Management System.
- Manage many tasks and projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and commitments.
- Create action plans to meet divisional goals and objectives. Conduct periodic reviews of progress and measures against goals.
- Effectively communicate respectfully, effectively, and in adherence to community guidelines.
- Consider a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems. Grasps complexities and perceives relationships among different problems or issues.
Compensation Range: $55,000 – $75,000. GCS offers a robust benefits package including health insurances, retirement plan, and generous leave and holidays.
