Science Teacher, Elementary School
Glenelg Country School (GCS) is an independent day school serving students age 2 – grade 12. Our mission is to cultivate a diverse community of learners who discover, contribute, thrive, and excel.
The Lower School seeks a full-time Science teacher for the school year. The ideal candidate is an energetic and creative educator who demonstrates enthusiasm for working with students in elementary ages, possesses a passion for science, and contributes to a positive culture with a strong emphasis on building strong relationships with students, staff, and the GCS community. Ability to develop and implement daily lessons that are both rigorous and engaging as well as strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to collaborate are musts.
The Lower School Science Teacher teaches science courses and leads STEAM fair events.
- Provide elementary instruction in science content incorporating the GCS outdoor campus into Lower School science lessons.
- Develop a sense of partnership among students and between students and the teacher.
- Implement laboratory investigations that align with Next Generation Science Standards.
- Coordinate the Lower School STEAM Fair and Family Night for grades 1 – 5.
- Assess and evaluate student progress.
- Collaborate with Middle and Upper School science teachers to provide cross-divisional enrichment of Lower School science lessons.
- Create an environment that actively promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion and fosters a sense of belonging and respect for all.
- Embrace professional growth and development.
- Engage fully in the life of the school.
- A B.A. or B.S. required.
- Experience working with elementary school students preferred.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for science education with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Experience with Project Based Learning, STEM/engineering design, and environmental education.
- Recognize the importance of learning and motivate others by own enthusiasm.
- Proficient with Office 365 and related Microsoft applications or similar; ability to maintain course pages and online gradebook within the Student Management System.
- Manage many tasks and projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and commitments.
- Create action plans to meet divisional goals and objectives. Conducts periodic reviews of progress and measures against goals.
- Effectively communicate respectfully, effectively, and in adherence to community guidelines.
- Consider a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems. Grasp complexities and perceive relationships among different problems or issues.
