Combat Vehicle Tester III – ATSS
* Temporary*
* Position until December 31, 2026 with the possibility of becoming permanent.*
Serves as working leader to include coordination of efforts necessary to perform a variety of tasks associated with testing track or wheeled combat vehicles to include operating and maintaining vehicles, weapons, systems, and communication equipment while supporting firing programs and test missions, on and off test courses and firing ranges.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assigns work and provides technical direction, helps in accomplishing difficult work procedures, observes work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems, and inspects completed work for quality and consistency.
- Tasks may be manual and/or mechanical in nature and support testing combat vehicle systems, weapons, ammunition, armor, and related equipment.
- Coordinates efforts necessary to ensure operator level PMCS as well as any other operator level maintenance performed is done in accordance with appropriate/approved test plans, manuals, policies, and regulations.
- Works independently and assists/coordinates the efforts of less experienced personnel in accordance with operator level manuals to troubleshoot, diagnose, and appropriately document issues relating to power plants, auxiliary power units, engines, transmissions, suspension components, electrical/electronic systems and components, communications equipment, basic fire control systems, turret traversing mechanisms, hydraulic or pneumatic systems, fire extinguisher/suppression systems, gas particulate systems and any like or related items in accordance with test objectives.
- Coordinates efforts necessary to ensure unit level maintenance is accomplished in accordance with appropriate/approved test plans, manuals, policies, and regulations.
- Works independently and/or coordinates efforts to install and/or operate sensitive data collection instrumentation, vehicle system training simulators/devices, and/or maintain equipment necessary to collect, process, store or obtain test-related data in accordance with appropriate test plans, manuals, policies, and regulations.
- Works independently and assists less qualified personnel to effectively operate combat vehicle computers, software, and other related technology.
- Identifies, documents, and communicates test-related and/or abnormal conditions in an appropriate format and timely manner.
- Provides on-the-job training, technical advice and assistance to various government agencies, peers, and subordinates as required.
- Works independently and assists less qualified personnel to develop, analyze and provide technical input as required for documentation and training.
- Works, coordinates, and collaborates with others in a professional manner to accomplish testing, evaluation, operation, and maintenance of combat vehicles and equipment.
- Actively participates to ensure personal safety, team safety, visitor safety, and end user safety in accordance with policy, standard operating procedures, and locally identified hazard mitigation requirements.
- Must have 7 years applicable experience or have completed formal training relevant to operating, maintaining, and/or testing combat vehicles and associated weapon components or systems. At least 2 years of the 7 years of experience must be as a CVT II or a comparable test and evaluation range, laboratory, or military environment.
- Must have demonstrated leadership ability.
- 20% must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B, with Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) endorsement within 1 year of employment.
- Must present a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) issued by a certified medical provider listed on the National Register of Certified Medical Examiners.
- Subject to pre-employment and ongoing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks to confirm a safe driving history.
- Must pass a DOT-compliant pre-employment drug screen and participate in an employer-administered drug and alcohol testing program, which includes: random testing; post-accident testing; reasonable suspicion testing; return-to-duty and follow-up testing (if applicable).
- Must consent to a full query of the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse prior to hire, and to annual limited queries during employment.
- Must report any CDL suspensions, disqualifications, or convictions for traffic violations in accordance with Federal regulations.
- Must know and follow state and federal commercial vehicle regulations enforced by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Department of Transportation.
- Must possess an Ammunition Certification Level I in accordance with ATC Regulation 350-8 within 6 months of employment.
- The work of this position is performed in the field where you are subject to the environment and sometimes in an environmentally controlled office environment.
