Full Stack Developer with backend (Python)
Hybrid (2 days a week in Baltimore, MD)
Our client is looking for an accomplished Software Engineer to build next‑generation n‑tier, native cloud‑based applications. In this role, you will be part of the Fixed Income Front Office software engineering team whose mission is to enhance and build new capabilities needed by Portfolio Managers, Analysts, and Quants using modern web/cloud technologies. This role is within the Fixed Income Attribution team focused on delivering high‑quality performance attribution analysis in the daily workflow of Portfolio Managers.
It is a hands‑on, full SDLC role that requires responsibility for the entire development cycle – from requirement gathering to end‑product delivery – in an agile team setting.
- Strong academic record and a degree with high mathematical and computing content (e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics) from a leading university.
- 4+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
- Knowledge of backend programming language(s) including Python and related libraries.
- Experience building containerized applications and deploying to cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or similar providers.
- Proficient on Linux platforms.
- Strong knowledge of one or more database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
- Strong in Test‑Driven Development and ability to write maintainable, adaptable code.
- Experience in front‑office software development with an Asset Management, Hedge Fund, or Investment Bank.
- Solid understanding of tradable financial instruments (securities, derivatives) and capital markets.
- Computer Science, Math, or Financial Engineering degree.
- Strong knowledge of other programming language(s) – e.g., JavaScript, Type Script, Kotlin.
- Experience with open‑source frameworks and development tools (Python libraries, gRPC, Git, CI/CD).
- Innovate, design, and deliver high reliability, scalability, and extensibility.
- Solve unique problems with broad impact and business value.
- Deliver within a team and as an individual developer.
- Demonstrate hands‑on capability to drive components to delivery.
- Advocate and contribute to software engineering best practices with enterprise‑wide impact.
- Willingness to take on domain complexity – Portfolio Management, Quantitative Research, Risk, etc.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders (portfolio managers, analysts, quants).Balance strategic and pragmatic concerns when solving problems.
- Make decisions cognizant of the firm’s broader business strategy.
- Perform well across the software lifecycle (coding, testing, development) and coach others.
- Experience with automated testing and testing techniques.
- Conversant in multiple technologies and learn quickly.
- Experience in various architecture styles (real‑time, batch, orchestration).
- Provide clear explanations of business strategy, technical concepts, designs, or implementations to non‑technical audiences.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and technologies and know when/how/if to apply them appropriately.
