Position Summary
Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks is hiring staff for youth and adult golf lessons and summer camps, located at Timbers of Troy Golf Course. We are seeking a head coach for spring/summer classes and summer camps. Spring classes will run weekday afternoons/early evenings and weekends starting in mid‑April. Summer classes will run weekday afternoons/early evenings and weekends starting at the end of June.
Summer camps will run Monday‑Wednesday mornings starting in mid‑June through July.

Duties- Teach, organize, and supervise participants in the teaching of golf skills.
- Prepare the site every day to ensure safety.
- Keep attendance records and necessary paperwork onsite.
- Notify students of canceled classes.
- Arrange for make‑ups due to cancellations.
- Provide drills for players to practice between sessions.
- Keep in contact with HCRP staff to update class lists and verify late registrants.
- Maintain friendly, positive communication with participants and parents.
- Be responsible for the safety and general welfare of the program and participants.
- Complete and submit accident and incident reports to the program supervisor promptly.
- Appraise player skill levels at the end of each session.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the program supervisor.
Candidates must be reliable, mature, courteous, professional and have knowledge/experience playing or instructing golf. They must have good communication skills and be comfortable working with children and adults, with flexible work hours.
Special Qualifications / Skills- Sufficient skill in explaining and demonstrating golf skills; knowledge of basic and game‑like drills.
- Ability to give positive feedback to correct errors and flaws in the student’s swings.
- Ability to develop a teaching plan and motivate players to improve their golf skills.
- Knowledge of current rules of the sport and the ability to interpret them.
- Community CPR, American Sport Education Program (ASEP) and Concussion certificates.
