Ellington Public Schools is seeking a long‑term substitute teacher for the middle school MAP Program starting immediately. The program serves students in grades 7‑8 who require specialized instruction and daily living skills support. The program allows students to access their education in a small group environment. Through a collaborative approach between special education teachers, general education teachers, para educators, support staff, administration, parents and students, students are provided an individualized education program that ensures the improvement of skills in the social, emotional and behavioral domain.
Responsibilities- Writing and implementing Individualized Education Plans that are based in data
- Facilitating Planning and Placement Team meetings
- Planning and implementing instruction in the areas of English, Mathematics and executive functioning and daily living skills
- Partnering with parents to foster strong home/school connections and building meaningful connections with students
- Building strong connections with students
- Partnering with staff to conduct home visits for students
- Working collaboratively with school staff
- Overseeing and scheduling para educator support for students
Applicants must hold a valid appropriate Special Education Certification: #065, #165 or #265. A state and national criminal check and a DCF search will be required.
