Classroom Assistant - Ellisville

Hourly Rate: $17.94 per hour (standard); $18.69 per hour if Missouri teacher certified

Schedule: 30 hours per week, 6 hours per day (9:00 am – 3:30 pm)

Classroom Assistant

Status: Full-time (School Term Position)

Reports To: Building Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Teaching certificate preferred; substitute certification required.

Assists with duties assigned by the classroom teacher to enhance the learning of all students.

• Accept direction from the classroom teacher.
• Assist at times with additional responsibilities and assignments as needed by the teacher or principal.
• Assist in the development of learning packets and other instructional aids.
• Assist the teacher with carrying out responsibilities by setting up demonstrations, copying instructional materials, and checking progress in class assignments.
• Assist the teacher in routine activities such as drills, reinforcement, grading objective tests and papers, developing verbal and listening communication skills, and demonstrating helping, guiding, and interest‑building exercises.
• Assist the teacher in the overall supervision, control, and management of the classroom.
• Assist with field trips.
• Help collect resources for use in the classroom.
• Review teacher’s lesson plans and understand the classroom assistant’s role in implementing the lesson plans.
• Under direction of administration, supervise students during lunch and recess time as assigned.
• Under direction of the classroom teacher, learn techniques for implementing curriculum.
• Under the direction of the teacher, assist with independent, tutorial, and small study groups.
• Work directly with teachers to carry out specific tasks related to students’ needs.

• Ability to interact effectively with staff and parents.
• Ability to move within buildings, classrooms, and playgrounds.
• Ability to relate and communicate to students regardless of their needs.
• Ability to safely supervise children in all areas of the building, inside and outside.
• Understanding of the limited role of a classroom assistant with respect to teacher responsibilities.
• Proficiency with computers using MS Office and Google programs, printer, fax, and phone.

• Minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited college/university or a Missouri substitute certificate.
• Friendly, helpful attitude when working with students and staff.
• Positive, caring manner with children.

• Standard office equipment.

• Employees regularly sit, talk, hear, walk, stand, and reach during job duties.

• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
