Experience with all phases of Labor and Postpartum care

Experience with care of well babies

Comfortable with postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP, bilirubin babies, NAS babies, feeders/growers

Comfortable caring for LDRP patients

Willingness to float to task-only in Med/Surg or Emergency Department

Description:

ASAP start needed. The facility has a Level III Nursery and averages 200 births per year. The unit has 4 Labor beds and 4 Postpartum beds. The patient population consists of low-risk patients, with all high-risk cases transferred out for labor and delivery. Travelers must be comfortable with Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum/Couplet care. The patient ratio will be based on AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 Laboring, 1:1 Active Labor, 1:3-4 Couplets, and 1:2-3 Med Surg.

The unit is staffed with at least 2 nurses overnight, with a possible increase to 3 nurses  dedicated Nursing staff for nursery; registered nurses will care for newborns. Support on the unit includes a midwife who provides most of the care, with an OB available as needed. The charge nurse, phlebotomy, and respiratory therapy are available 24/7. Charting will be done through an Electronic Medical Record system.

Weekend rotation is required every other weekend, and no call is expected. Holiday expectations will involve working every other holiday, with approval for time off seeking manager approval. The unit cares for low acuity patients receiving IV Antibiotics, swing bed, or rehab. Travelers will not care for infectious patients or perform telemetry monitoring. Qualified candidates should be adept in shoulder dystocia management, epidural management, and intrathecal spinal analgesia.

Care for newborns will include vital signs, thermoregulation, monitoring for hypoglycemia, bilirubin levels, and NAS babies.
