Senior Accountant

Location: Greater Chicago Area (Onsite/Hybrid)

Employment Type: Contract - 3-6+ months

Pay: $35-40/hour W2

We are partnering with a growing manufacturing organization seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the accounting and finance team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys working across month-end close, financial reporting, inventory, cost accounting, and process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in general accounting, understands manufacturing operations, and is comfortable collaborating with cross‑functional teams including Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance.

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and investigate variances.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Support inventory accounting, including inventory reconciliations, reserves, and valuation analysis.
• Assist with cost accounting activities, standard cost updates, manufacturing variances, and inventory transactions.
• Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
• Support internal and external audit requests and prepare required documentation.
• Improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
• Partner with Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, and other business leaders to provide financial insights and support decision‑making.
• Assist with special projects, ERP implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives as needed.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with experience supporting a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month‑end close.
• Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, or manufacturing accounting.
• Knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Experience working within an ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Net Suite, JD Edwards, Epicor, Infor, or similar.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• CPA or CPA‑track is a plus but not required.

• Standard costing and inventory management.
• Fixed assets and capital project accounting.
• ERP implementation or system conversion experience.
• Process improvement and internal controls.
