Min starting salary: $85,000 - salary commensurate with experience

Summary

To implement and maintain policies and procedures regarding student rights, responsibilities, conduct, and discipline set forth by the Board of Education to ensure a safe, orderly, respectful and productive environment for student learning. To work collaboratively with administration, staff, and community organizations for student well‑being. To work with the school staff to implement a research‑based framework for effective teaching and learning that is refined continuously to improve instruction for all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Uses data to analyze strengths and areas of growth for the Division and School.
  • Demonstrates student‑centered thinking and problem‑solving.
  • Advances the profession through participation in local, state, and national professional groups.
  • Engages in continuous professional growth related to school and student safety and well‑being through both internal and external programs.
  • Participates actively in the Operations Advisory Council, Building Leadership Team, and other School & District leadership teams.
  • Communicates important updates to the building at large, including procedural changes and data updates regarding student attendance and discipline.
  • Prepares administrative reports as needed/requested.
  • Supervises common areas of the building (i.e. cafeteria, student arrival, student departure) as needed/directed.
  • Properly addresses the improvement of student discipline.
  • Coordinates supervision of the school day and extracurricular activities.
  • Serves as a leader on the school safety committee and manages building safety drills.
  • Coordinates with other deans to ensure coverage at all school events at which coverage is necessary or requested.
  • Implements CPI strategies as necessary.
  • Develops and implements a system for monitoring student attendance.
  • Strategically plans for the improvement of student attendance.
  • Communicates with the Student Services team, families, and teachers on student attendance.
  • Advises students and families on ways to improve attendance.
  • Investigates student attendance issues.
  • Assigns appropriate consequences to students for truancy.
  • Conducts home visits as needed.
  • Implements and enforces District 205 Board of Education policies.
  • Assists students and staff in establishing and maintaining high expectations for behavior.
  • Serves as a referral source for disciplinary problems and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Maintains communication with individual student supports/case managers.
  • Investigates student concerns and disciplinary issues.
  • Interviews students and witnesses in disciplinary investigations.
  • Assigns consequences (including suspensions) in accordance with District 205 Board policy and state law.
  • Maintains disciplinary records required by policy, regulation, law, or good practice.
  • Presents the school's case in due process proceedings for suspension and expulsion.
  • Provides peer mediation to resolve student conflict.
  • Leads student re‑entry process following out‑of‑school suspensions.
  • Meets weekly with the Student Services Team.
  • Works with other deans and members of the Student Services Department to develop proactive disciplinary interventions.
  • Provides input as needed for student placement and evaluation and makes referrals for professional support.
  • Provides data and insight for Tier 2 and Tier 3 meetings.
  • Applies knowledge of legal matters pertaining to education of at‑risk students and students with disabilities.
  • Attends IPS meetings as needed.
  • Assists and supports new/transfer students with the transition to York High School.
  • Works with community and government agencies on problems relating to drug abuse, safety, and truancy.
