STEM Teacher

The K8 STEM Teacher provides engaging, hands-on instruction in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The STEM Teacher designs and delivers standards-aligned learning experiences that foster curiosity, problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking. Through project-based learning and real-world applications, the STEM Teacher helps students develop foundational STEM skills and prepares them to be innovative thinkers and collaborative learners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging STEM instruction for students in grades K8 aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards for Science, Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics, and Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Develop hands-on, inquiry-based lessons that incorporate engineering design, coding, robotics, and problem-solving.
  • Use project-based learning to connect STEM concepts to real-world applications.
  • Integrate technology tools and digital resources to enhance student learning.
  • Foster creativity, innovation, collaboration, and critical thinking among students.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities and English learners.
  • Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging STEM classroom or lab environment.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate STEM concepts across subject areas.
  • Promote student interest in STEM fields through enrichment activities, clubs, competitions, and special projects.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional development and remain current on STEM education best practices.
  • Support school initiatives and contribute positively to the school community.

Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families. Ability to design engaging, age-appropriate STEM lessons for students across a wide developmental range (K8). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to inspire curiosity and enthusiasm for STEM learning. Commitment to equitable and inclusive educational practices. Ability to manage materials, equipment, and technology used in STEM instruction. Develop and coordinate programs that encourage meaningful family engagement in the school community.

Serve as a point of contact for families regarding student behavior, attendance, and school culture initiatives. Organize workshops, informational sessions, and outreach opportunities to support families. Foster positive partnerships between the school and its families. Plan and coordinate school-wide events that promote school spirit, community, and student belonging. Support family engagement events such as family nights, celebrations, assemblies, and recognition programs.

Collaborate with staff, student groups, and parent organizations to strengthen school traditions and community partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Endorsement in science, mathematics, or CTE required.
  • Experience teaching or facilitating STEM-related instruction is preferred.
  • Knowledge of STEM instructional practices such as inquiry-based learning, engineering design process, and computational thinking.
  • Experience with educational technology tools, robotics platforms, or coding programs preferred.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence and its use and application in schools, businesses, and daily life.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.

Salary Range Subject to the LTA Collective Bargaining Agreement $47,000-$57,000 per collective bargaining agreement.
