Elementary Special Education Teacher
We're seeking a motivated Special Education Teacher to join an Illinois elementary school for a full-time maternity leave assignment from August 13 through November 9. If you're passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs and enjoy working in a collaborative school setting, we'd love to hear from you. This position serves a self-contained classroom of approximately nine elementary students in grades 3-5 with autism.
You'll design meaningful learning experiences, implement individualized supports, and work alongside school staff and families to help students grow academically, socially, and behaviorally. In this role, you will plan and deliver individualized instruction that addresses each student's unique learning needs while implementing IEP goals and monitoring progress through ongoing data collection. You will maintain accurate educational records and complete all required documentation in a timely manner.
Success in this position also includes collaborating with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and multidisciplinary teams, communicating regularly with families regarding student progress, and fostering a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and behaviorally.
Requirements Candidates should have experience in Special Education or a related educational setting, preferably working with children in a school-based environment. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, while a master's degree or additional graduate coursework is preferred. Applicants must possess a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an LBS1 endorsement. Please note that provisional or alternative licensure does not meet the requirements for this position.
