Purpose:
To help all students reach their full capacity as learners by fostering student curiosity, independence, self-reflection, and wellness. To provide rigorous, relevant and engaging instruction and assessment. To meet the needs of all student learners in a compassionate and understanding way through positive encouragement and development of trust in a safe and appropriate learning environment. To collaborate respectfully with colleagues to create a positive professional culture that is focused on student growth.
Essential Functions:
- Plan and prepare appropriate learning activities focused on rigor and relevance as well as providing appropriate assessments and feedback consistent with District goals.
- Create a safe, respectful and engaging learning environment for all learners where risk-taking is encouraged, and employ a variety of instructional strategies to ensure that all learners succeed.
- Relate appropriately to learners, demonstrating compassion, trust, and care for their well-being as learners and as individuals.
- Maintain accurate records for learners and ensure that confidentiality is maintained for each learner.
- Integrate technology appropriately in the educational process.
- Strive to stay current with new thinking and new ideas in the realm of education.
- Work collaboratively with all staff, members of the student services team, administrators and parents. Communicate with these stakeholders in a timely way to support student growth.
- Participate in professional growth opportunities such as workshops, institutes, seminars, conferences, and internal or external continuing education.
- Demonstrate a willingness to assume co-curricular duties related to the teaching profession.
Special Education Teachers must also be able to perform the following functions:
- Draft educational and functional goals that are specific to each learner's disabilities and educational needs
- Possess and apply knowledge of legal matters pertaining to education of students with disabilities.
- Be knowledgeable in the process of lesson, student work and assessment modifications to ensure that all learners have what is needed based on IEP information and accommodations.
- Serve as the case manager in all aspects for learners on the assigned caseload.

- Education and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret student data and assessment information. Ability to write reports, effectively present information, and respond to questions from colleagues, parents, students and administrators. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. - Computer
Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Gmail, Powerschool and other school relevant data systems, Aesop Absence Management, Skyward employee access, and other relevant systems for integrating technology in the classroom.
