Elmhurst University invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in the music department with a background in K-12 generalmusic and music education. Experience teaching K-6 elementarygeneral music is a must, and additional experience teaching 6-12general music is desired. Main teaching responsibilities include teaching K-12 General Music Methods, and arranging general musicclinical teaching observations and experiences for classparticipants.

Position Status: Exempt

Salary Range: The pay range is $3,800-$4,000 for a standard
1.0 credit (4 semester hour) course. New part-time faculty start at $3,800 (Adjunct Level
1).

Responsibilities
  • Teach one K-12 Classroom Music (MUS 366) course during the Fall
    2026 semester.
  • Use materials that are standardized across all sections of thecourse.
  • Be present for all course meetings, including the final examperiod, and hold additional office hours to assist with studentquestions.
  • Monitor student progress, grade assignments, and post grades in a timely fashion.
Other Responsibilities
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of Elmhurst University.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in music education
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate utilizing the Orff-Schulwerk,Dalcroze, and Kodaly methodologies are a must
Preferred Qualifications
  • Orff-Schulwerk and/or Kodaly certifications
  • Prior teaching experience at the college level
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position are primarily performed inan indoor setting with limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is often sedentary in nature and requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods. Requiredabilities include speaking and hearing for in-person and virtual communication, using close and distance vision when readingdocuments or viewing screens, and performing tasks with repetitivefine motor skills. Work may require occasional lifting, bending,carrying, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
