Key Responsibilities- Specimen Processing & Laboratory Support
- Receive, verify, label, and prepare specimens for testing across General Chemistry, Toxicology, and Molecular departments
- Perform specimen centrifugation, aliquoting, sorting, storage, and routing according to laboratory procedures
- Ensure proper chain-of-custody procedures for toxicology specimens when applicable
- Support molecular testing workflows through sample preparation, documentation, and specimen management as permitted
- Maintain specimen integrity and ensure accurate tracking throughout the testing process
- Departmental Support
- Assist laboratory technologists and scientists with routine workflow and operational tasks
- Prepare workstations and ensure all required supplies, reagents, and materials are available for daily testing
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment of laboratory consumables
- Assist in tracking specimen status, workflow efficiency, and turnaround times
- Support laboratory operations across General Chemistry, Toxicology, and Molecular departments as needed
- Quality & Compliance
- Follow all CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, COLA, and laboratory safety requirements
- Maintain accurate documentation, logs, specimen tracking records, and operational reports
- Assist with temperature monitoring, cleaning schedules, maintenance logs, and quality documentation
- Report specimen discrepancies, documentation errors, quality concerns, or safety issues promptly
- Participate in quality assurance activities and support inspection readiness efforts
- Operational Support
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and efficiency of laboratory work areas
- Assist with biohazard waste disposal and laboratory safety procedures
- Support communication between departments to ensure efficient specimen flow and testing operations
- Participate in onboarding, training, competency assessments, and continuing education activities
- Contribute to a collaborative laboratory environment focused on quality, accuracy, and patient care
- Full-time, exempt position
- Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Minimum 40-hour workweek with occasional Saturday afternoon coverage as required
- Schedule provided a minimum of two (2) weeks in advance
- Flexibility to work additional hours as operational needs require
- Bachelor's degree required
- Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field preferred
- Prior experience in a clinical laboratory, diagnostic laboratory, specimen processing, or healthcare environment preferred
- Experience supporting General Chemistry, Toxicology, or Molecular laboratory operations is highly desirable
- Familiarity with laboratory workflows, specimen handling, and quality systems preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to follow laboratory procedures, SOPs, and regulatory requirements precisely
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Basic proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS), Microsoft Office, and computer applications
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced laboratory environment
- Commitment to patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
- Clinical diagnostic laboratory setting
- Regular exposure to biological specimens and laboratory chemicals
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to laboratory safety protocols
- Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout laboratory areas
- Fast-paced environment requiring accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts
- Ability to perform repetitive laboratory tasks with precision
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally
