Director of Business Development
We are seeking an experienced Director of Business Development to lead our growth efforts in the piping and mechanical sectors. This role will define and execute the commercial strategy, drive sales and marketing alignment, develop new market opportunities, and secure high-value contracts. The Director will work closely with engineering, operations, and executive leadership to expand our client base, deepen relationships with key partners, and ensure profitable project pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement a comprehensive business development strategy focused on piping and mechanical projects to achieve revenue and margin targets.
- Lead sales and marketing initiatives to generate qualified leads, build brand awareness, and convert opportunities into contracts.
- Build and manage a high-performing BD team; set goals, coach team members, and monitor performance against KPIs.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, EPC firms, contractors, and suppliers to secure repeat and referral business.
- Oversee proposal development, bid management, and contract negotiations to ensure competitive and profitable award outcomes.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to validate project scope, technical feasibility, and commercial terms prior to contract award.
- Manage the sales pipeline and forecasting process, reporting progress and risks to the executive team regularly.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade associations to generate leads and reinforce market presence.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives to streamline customer onboarding, delivery readiness, and post-award client satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive business development, sales, or commercial leadership experience, with at least 2 years in a director-level role.
- Proven track record of winning and managing large piping/mechanical contracts and long-cycle industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, mechanical scope, industry standards, and construction methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience in marketing strategy, sales funnel management, and CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce).
- Exceptional negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Experience leading and developing teams, setting objectives, and delivering measurable growth.
- Comfortable with travel as required and working across geographically dispersed teams.
- Results-oriented, strategic thinker with strong financial acumen and the ability to translate market insights into executable plans.
