Responsibilities
- Participate in pulmonary rehabilitation programs with patients to help them learn how to manage their condition or symptoms
- Teach patients about medications and their side effects, and instruct them on how to take their medications properly
- Monitor the condition of patients during the course of treatment to ensure that they are responding to treatment as expected
- Record patients’ vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure at regular intervals throughout the day
- Perform diagnostic tests such as X-rays, cultures, sputum analysis, and lung function tests to diagnose a patient’s condition
- Determine the proper course of treatment for patients with chronic pulmonary conditions such as asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, and pneumonia
- Prepare and administer medications, including inhalers and nebulizers, to patients with breathing problems
- Educate patients on how to recognize when they need medical attention and how to manage their condition at home
- Record patient information in medical records and physician’s charts, such as weight, height, pulse rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels
$36.00 - New Grad, pay will increase based on experience and internal equity.
Must Haves- License: IL RN license
- Certification: CPR/BLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Experience: 1 year of med/surg experience required.
- Education: BSN or higher in Nursing.
Note: If Associates Degree in Nursing is the highest degree held, must graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within five years of position start date (effective September 1, 2021).
About the Unit- Beds: 28
- Patient Population: Adult;
Pulmonary unit also has a general med/surg population - Common Diagnoses: COPD, pneumonia, chest tubes, tracheostomy, and other lung conditions
- Average number of admits per day or week: TBD - new unit unsure of current volume
- Nurse to Patient Ratio: TBD - Ideal 1-4 or 1-5
- Opportunities for growth: Clinical Educator, RN Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Manager, Clinical Director. There are also many opportunities to sit on committees.
