Position: RN - Critical Care (PCCU) - Days

Hourly Pay Range

$36.00 - $55.80 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights

    Registered Nurse PCCU - Medical ICU (Open Heart Surgery and Neurosurgery Pods)

  • Location:

    Elmhurst, IL

  • Full-Time: 36 hours/week

  • Hours:

    7am – 7:30pm with every 3rd weekend and rotating holiday track

  • Required Travel:
    May float to other adult inpatient units as needed

What you will do
  • Develop a plan of care that identifies interventions to achieve expected outcomes. Evaluate patient progress toward attainment of outcomes, systematically revise diagnosis, interventions and expected outcomes as needed.

  • Provide patient assessment and collect health data involving patient, family, and other health care providers.

  • Communicate plan of care to patient and family, respecting patient wishes and mutual goal‑setting. Communicate patient data to physician and interdisciplinary team as indicated. Document patient health data, interventions and communications.

  • Individualize patient and family teaching based on thorough assessment. Assess cultural background, learning style, and barriers; modify teaching accordingly. Provide teaching on disease management, emergency care, and drug information when appropriate. Identify community resources to support self‑management.

  • Interact with and contribute to professional development of peers, students and other health care providers. Share knowledge, provide feedback, and support an environment conducive to clinical education. Assign or delegate tasks as needed.

  • Provide psychological support to nurture a compassionate environment.

  • Assist technical staff with contrast injection, venipuncture, drug administration, oxygen therapy, and IV management.

  • Participate in performance improvement activities and nursing research. Keep abreast of research and practice trends in wound, ostomy, and skin care. Support staff in using evidence‑based practices.

  • If skilled, conduct daily rounds of wound/ostomy/skin care patients; monitor effectiveness of treatment plans.

  • Comply with HIPAA regulations.

  • Assist in the transportation of acutely ill patients as needed.

What you will need Required Education, Licensures/Certifications, and Skills and/or Experience
  • Associate Degree or higher in Nursing

    • If Associate Degree in Nursing is the highest degree held, must graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within five years of position start date (effective September 1, 2021).

    • Current incumbents with an RN Diploma are grandfathered.

  • RN Diploma Nurse if position start date is prior to September 1, 2021.

  • Active Illinois State Nursing License.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required.

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required.

  • 1 year of inpatient nursing experience.

Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Nursing.

  • 1 year ICU or ER experience.

  • 1 year radiology nursing experience.

  • 1 year wound/ostomy experience.

  • Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) – Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB).

  • Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) – Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB).

A Brief Overview

The Staff Nurse will deliver safe and compassionate nursing care for all patient populations by planning, implementing, and evaluating the patient plan of care. The Staff Nurse will collaborate with nurses, physicians and other members of the clinical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care.
