Quality Technician

The Quality Technician ensures that all components and finished products meet customer, internal, and industry specifications by performing detailed inspections, non-destructive testing, and calibration activities. This role supports the manufacturing process by verifying that processes and procedures are followed, identifying quality issues, and collaborating with production and suppliers to drive continuous improvement in product quality and consistency.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform regular quality assessments on all incoming materials from vendors and outgoing products prior to shipment to ensure they meet all specified requirements.
  • Reject products and materials that do not meet quality expectations and document nonconformances in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Measure product dimensions, examine functionality, and compare final products to engineering drawings, customer specifications, and industry standards.
  • Ensure parts meet acceptance criteria through non-destructive testing (NDT) specifications and verify that all related processes and procedures are followed during manufacturing.
  • Perform first piece, in-process, and final inspections as requested to support production and verify conformance at each stage.
  • Use DMIS/Modus programming skills to develop and run CMM programs and support automated dimensional inspection.
  • Calibrate and verify measuring instruments and inspection equipment, ensuring all tools remain within required tolerances and calibration schedules.
  • Communicate quality control concerns and inspection findings to the production team to improve product excellence and prevent recurrence of defects.
  • Resolve quality-related issues in a timely manner by investigating root causes and supporting corrective and preventive actions.
  • Understand and apply control plan requirements throughout the inspection and manufacturing processes.
  • Collect and format quality data, analyze recorded charts, and prepare summary analysis reports for leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Organize and maintain quality documents, inspection records, and customer files to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Assist employees in proper measurement methods and the correct use of gauges and inspection equipment.
  • Perform process capability studies and support PPAP/ISIR-related activities to validate new or modified processes and products.
  • Assist employees and supervisors in accurately completing quality forms and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain databases for various quality projects to track performance, trends, and improvement initiatives.
  • Make recommendations for long-range quality system or process improvements based on inspection data and observed trends.
  • Participate in vendor certification activities to help eliminate or reduce incoming inspection where appropriate and feasible.
  • Act as an internal quality auditor by conducting audits, reviewing processes, and verifying adherence to quality system requirements.
  • Coordinate quality system paperwork, including forms, checklists, and audit documentation, to support compliance and certification efforts.
  • Prepare and write supplier correspondences regarding quality issues, expectations, and improvement requirements when applicable.

Essential skills include:

  • 2–4 years of experience in manufacturing, with a strong foundation in basic math and a working knowledge of basic geometry.
  • 2–4 years of quality assurance experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Direct experience working with metals in a manufacturing or inspection capacity.
  • Experience with the manufacturing of bevel gears or similar precision mechanical components.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and customer specifications.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards related to product quality and inspection.
  • Hands-on experience using measuring instruments such as /OD micrometers, calipers, snap gauges, bore gauges, dial indicators, and tooth veneers.
  • Experience operating coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), including both manual and CNC systems.
  • CMM programming experience, including PC-DMIS and Modus programming skills.
