We are seeking an Associate R&D Scientist to support formulation and product development within our pharmaceutical research group. The role will contribute to design and execution of formulation experiments, characterization of drug products, and support transfer of processes toward scale-up. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to generate data, document results, and help ensure compliance with quality and safety standards with opportunities to contribute to regulatory activities including FDA-related filings.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute laboratory experiments to develop and optimize pharmaceutical formulations (solid, liquid, semi-solid, or parenteral as applicable).
- Characterize physical and chemical properties of formulations using analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, DSC, particle size analysis, dissolution testing).
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data; prepare clear summaries, technical reports, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
- Write and maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, protocols, SOPs, and batch records in accordance with cGMP and company documentation practices.
- Support stability studies, compatibility testing, and shelf-life assessments; monitor and report stability data.
- Collaborate with formulation scientists, process development, quality assurance, and manufacturing to support scale-up and technology transfer activities.
- Troubleshoot formulation and process issues and implement experimental strategies to resolve technical problems.
- Assist in preparation of materials and supporting documentation for regulatory submissions and inspections; provide data and technical input as needed.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure proper calibration and inventory of reagents, and uphold a safe working environment.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior technicians and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D group.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutics, or related discipline.
- 14 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical R&D or formulation development (industry or academic research experience accepted).
- Practical experience with formulation techniques and characterization methods (e.g., HPLC, dissolution, particle size analysis, thermal analysis).
- Demonstrated ability to design experiments, analyze data, and draw technical conclusions; proficiency with data tools such as Excel and statistical software is preferred.
- Working knowledge of cGMP, laboratory documentation practices, and quality systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Nice-to-have: experience with regulatory submissions and inspection processes, familiarity with FDA requirements and ICH guidelines, and prior exposure to technology transfer or scale-up activities.
