Position: Event Technical Lead, Audio Visual (Part Time Casual) - Chicago

Position Overview

The Technical Lead is responsible for the intermediate set up, operation, and breakdown of small to large‑scale audiovisual systems in hospitality environments while ensuring complete customer satisfaction. This role reports to an Operations Manager, Operations Director, or Director of Event Technology.

Key Job Responsibilities Equipment Operation
  • Set up, operate, and break down intermediate audiovisual equipment accurately and on time.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and resolve problems quickly as they arise.
  • Comply with all company security and safety measures.
  • Secure equipment from theft or damage when in use.
Customer Service
  • Provide excellent service and strive to exceed expectations of internal and external customers.
  • Act as leader, mentor, and coach for other technicians.
  • Maintain positive relationships with all clients through effective communication.
  • Meet with guests on site to ensure their needs are met and equipment is functioning properly.
  • Monitor events and check in on customers throughout the day.
  • Understand and foster the hotel/client relationship.
Technical Ability
  • Demonstrate advanced operational ability to troubleshoot and problem‑solve equipment and software issues.
  • Anticipate equipment challenges and react in a timely and professional manner.
Systems Knowledge
  • Follow company processes, complete systems entry and paperwork accurately.
  • Use equipment sheets to determine the equipment scheduled for setup and strike.
  • Coordinate with other staff and outside vendors for equipment.
  • Utilize floor up‑selling techniques to increase revenue.
  • Work with clients to finalize invoices.
  • Operate Encore systems and applications as required.
Job Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; associate’s degree preferred.
  • 2–3+ years of customer service or hospitality experience preferred.
  • 2–3+ years of audio‑visual experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license required for positions that may operate company vehicles.
  • Must complete all required training and certifications within 60 days of start.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Work Environment Hotel / Convention Center

Work is performed in hotels or convention centers with moderate exposure to outdoor temperatures and dust. Conditions vary between moderate quiet and noisy environments. Team members will handle high‑end audio‑visual equipment and electrical components and may be required to work at heights using lifts and ladders. Work may span multiple hotel locations and includes irregular hours, on‑call status, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Appearance guidelines defined by Encore must be followed.

Warehouse / Venue

Work is performed at event venues and in warehouse environments. Conditions similar to hotel environments, with exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt, sand, dust, and potential noise. Work may require irregular hours and on‑call status, including evenings and weekends.

Compensation

Hourly Pay Range: $17.21 – $22.37. Final compensation is based on location, travel, relevant experience, or specific skills and expertise. Some positions may be eligible for overtime, bonuses, or incentives.
