Position and Locations:
- Elmira, Horseheads SVE
Depending on location, this position may involve direct work with students with autism, emotional and/or developmental disabilities which may include, but are not limited to, op positional and aggressive behaviors; mood disorders; and potentially severe and unpredictable physical and/or verbal outbursts. Blind/Visually Impaired Teachers are expected to:
- Identify, order, create, and/or teach with and on the following concepts:
Braille, large print books/materials, abacus, orientation concepts, typing and visual techniques/software as indicated on student IEP's - Administer standardized and informal diagnostic tests to assess the strength and skills of individual students for education prescriptive purposes and for goal setting, evaluation and assessment purposes
- Consult and collaborate with all individuals involved with the education of the student
- Record and report student progress
- Carry out treatment program as identified through evaluation and IEP, maintain appropriate and accurate documentation regarding assessment, planning and treatment outcome
- Carry out all other duties as assigned
- Job responsibility may require individual to do one and two-person lifts and/or physical interventions on a daily basis. Position requires the successful completion of all elements of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for schools (TCIS) training. Initial and refresher TCIS training is provided by GST BOCES.
