Electrical Controls Engineer (Allen Bradley)
The Electrical Controls Engineer will design, program, commission, and troubleshoot complex industrial control systems in a systems integration environment. This role requires strong experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLC platforms, HMI/SCADA development, industrial networking, and electrical control panel design using AutoCAD Electrical. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in machine automation, motion control, VFDs, safety systems, and startup support, with the ability to diagnose and resolve challenging system issues in the field.
This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse automation projects while contributing to innovative manufacturing and process control solutions in Elmira, NY.
- Design, program, and commission complex industrial control systems.
- Utilize multiple PLC platforms, with a preference for Rockwell/Allen-Bradley systems.
- Automate manufacturing equipment, machinery, and industrial processes.
- Work in a systems integrator environment.
- Manage projects, including system design, programming, startup, and commissioning activities.
- Work with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLC platforms including Micro Logix, Compact Logix, and Control Logix.
- Develop and structure PLC programs for large-scale machines and automated systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machine operating states, including Idle, Auto, Manual, and Fault conditions.
- Develop and support HMI applications, preferably using Rockwell/Allen-Bradley platforms.
- Design and implement operator interfaces.
- Create and maintain HMI standards, templates, and reusable program structures.
- Design alarm systems, alarm handling strategies, and operator notifications.
- Work with SCADA systems and industrial monitoring applications.
- Work with industrial communication networks and protocols.
- Configure and troubleshoot Ether Net/IP networks.
- Diagnose communication issues between PLCs, remote I/O, and field devices.
- Knowledge of managed industrial switches, VLAN configuration, and network architecture is preferred.
- Proficient with electrical design software, preferably AutoCAD Electrical.
- Design industrial control panels and electrical schematics.
- Size control transformers and select appropriate control system components.
- Design electrical panels for industrial manufacturing or automation environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience with Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation platforms and Panel View programming.
- Proficiency in control system hardware design, including PLCs, I/O modules, relays, switches, and pilot lights; analog I/O experience is a plus.
- Skilled in electrical schematic design, PLC programming, and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Strong communication, troubleshooting, and computer skills with the ability to work effectively with customers and team members.
- Knowledge of safety PLCs, safety circuits, risk assessments, and safety over Ether Net/IP.
- Comfortable traveling to customer sites and working directly with customers during commissioning and startup activities.
- Positive, team-oriented attitude with a strong desire to contribute in a collaborative work environment.
