Job SummaryA facility in Elmira, NY is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for Unit 3B, a high-acuity 34-bed unit specializing in Medical-Surgical care, Telemetry, and Stroke management. Due to an increase in patient census, we are looking for a clinician who excels in a collaborative team-nursing environment and possesses strong neurological and cardiac assessment skills.
Key Responsibilities- Specialized Care: Manage a diverse patient load including general medical-surgical cases and patients requiring continuous cardiac telemetry.
- Stroke Management: Act as the primary nurse for stroke patients, utilizing NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) protocols for assessment and intervention.
- Team Nursing: Work effectively within a team nursing model, providing direction to LPNs (who assist with PO meds and second-dose antibiotics) and Nursing Assistants (who manage vitals and glucose monitoring).
- Cardiac Monitoring: Monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms, ensuring rapid response to any hemodynamic changes.
- Licensure: Active New York State RN License in hand.
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Must be active prior to arrival).
- NIHSS (Stroke Certification) required.
- BLS (AHA).
- Skills: Proficiency in telemetry interpretation and acute care nursing.
- Clinical Experience: Ability to handle a 34-bed unit environment split into two distinct teams.
- Reason for Requisition: Increase in patient census.
- Unit Structure: 34 beds; well-supported by Nursing Assistants and LPNs to allow RNs to focus on high-level assessments and coordination.
- Shift Details: Consistent 12-hour night shifts.
