Position Overview
- The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide comprehensive nursing care within a psychiatric healthcare setting, ensuring the delivery of safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with Office of Mental Health (OMH) standards and regulatory requirements.
- The RN will be responsible for medication administration, physical and mental health assessments, patient documentation, therapeutic milieu evaluation, staff supervision, and crisis intervention.
- The ideal candidate will possess strong psychiatric nursing experience, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and established nursing protocols.
- Conduct comprehensive physical and mental health assessments and monitor changes in patient condition.
- Provide shift oversight and clinical guidance to Mental Health Therapy Aides and other direct care staff.
- Evaluate and maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu to promote patient recovery and well-being.
- Facilitate and participate in therapeutic patient groups and other treatment activities.
- Complete accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation in accordance with OMH and facility requirements.
- Serve as Shift Charge Nurse, coordinating nursing operations and ensuring continuity of patient care.
- Assist with the orientation, training, and mentoring of newly hired nursing and direct care staff.
- Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques and participate in patient restraint interventions when clinically necessary and in accordance with OMH policies.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, social workers, therapists, and multidisciplinary treatment teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Monitor patient safety, identify changes in health status, and communicate significant findings to appropriate healthcare providers.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention, medication administration, documentation, and patient safety standards.
- Perform additional nursing duties and responsibilities as assigned to support facility healthcare operations.
Work Schedule & Conditions
- Schedule:
5 Days per Week (40 Hours per Week) - Primary Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
- Weekend work required; days may vary based on operational needs

Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York
- Valid driver's license required
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification required
- Experience in psychiatric, behavioral health, mental health, or inpatient healthcare settings preferred
- Strong medication administration, patient assessment, crisis intervention, and documentation skills
- Ability to supervise direct care staff and function effectively as Shift Charge Nurse
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and professional nursing standards
