Job DescriptionThe Teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students, creating an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. The Teacher supervises students, monitors outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and the community. They develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet all students’ needs, maintain records, and follow required procedures. Teaching areas include all certified areas such as Classroom, Core Curriculum, Specialty, Media, Languages, and Remediation.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in an applicable field for applicable level(s).
- Extensive knowledge of ABSS curriculum and integration techniques.
- Thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process in grades K‑12.
- Ability to provide instruction reflecting multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
- Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
- Ability to monitor student safety and well‑being, especially during inclusive activities.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
- Ability to perform general clerical duties and operate common office machines.
- Ability to maintain basic files, records, and discipline.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, parents, and the community.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in an applicable field for applicable level(s).
- When transferring from another school system, must have received routine meets standards or above standard evaluations with no action plans for improvement.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid Teacher’s License issued by the state of NC in applicable field and for assigned level.
- Must not be on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified or undergoing certification revocation hearing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles.
- National Board Certification.
- Demonstrated record of achieving Highly Qualified status on evaluations.
- Spanish speaking.
- Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Regularly meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
- Create a classroom environment encouraging student involvement and achievement of objectives.
- Provide an instructional program for all students.
- Prepare classes and document preparation upon supervisor request.
- Guide learning toward curriculum goals in alignment with ABSS framework.
- Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to communicate to students.
- Utilize instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate students.
- Ensure safety precautions protecting students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law, ABSS policy, NCDPI, and regulations.
- Assist with implementing policies and rules for student life and classroom behavior.
- Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours when reasonably requested.
- Build respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
- Evaluate personal effectiveness and apply skills to improve performance.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Participate in school management and share responsibilities for school program.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on required committees.
- Administer and supervise standardized test administrations per Code of Ethics and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
