Job Summary
The Welder is responsible for laying out, fitting, and fabricating metal components to assemble structural forms in a mechanical environment. This role requires intermediate-level expertise in welding techniques, metallurgy, and interpreting engineering specifications. Key duties include performing tack and full welds, inspecting weld quality, reading blueprints, and operating precision measuring tools. The Welder II must demonstrate reliability, a willingness to learn, and maintain a positive attitude while working in physically demanding conditions that may include outdoor exposure and elevated work spaces.
Responsibilities- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts.
- Weld small and large components such as copper plumbing, beams, and pipelines.
- Use specialized machinery for industrial welding and oversee machines that perform the same job.
- Maintain and repair all machinery.
- Assess welded surfaces, structures, and components to identify errors.
- Follow and enforce strict safety regulations such as wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.
- Monitor machinery for appropriate usage and temperature.
- Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- A valid certificate in welding from an accredited institution is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a welder.
- Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and designs.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
The position involves frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, high and precarious work spaces, and vibration. Tasks require standing, walking, use of hands, reaching, climbing, balancing, and occasional sitting. The employee may lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly and, occasionally, up to 100 pounds. Movement may involve carrying items for extended periods. The role also requires hearing and verbal communication.
