Position: Toddler Center Base Teacher

Toddler Center Base Teacher Job Summary

Responsible for daily classroom operations in the infant/toddler classroom per BCCL, HSPS, and agency expectations, including completing home visits per HSPPS and agency expectations, and assisting with maintaining full enrollment and a waiting list within the Early Head Start Program.

Essential Functions

The Toddler Center Base Teacher will be evaluated on a combination of skills, dispositions, and behaviors, some specific to this service area and others reflecting general expectations of all agency employees. The Core responsibilities include:

  • Ensure quality direct services delivery for children and families.
  • Assist children with differing abilities in their daily routine, which may include diapering, feeding, etc.
  • Provide a safe and supervised educational setting for children while they are in the Early Head Start program.
  • Encourage parent involvement in all aspects of the program.
  • Provide services to families per HSPPS incorporating all program areas:
    Education, Health, Nutrition, Disability, Family & Community Partnerships.
  • Work with parents to develop and implement an educational program that includes appropriate child development activities, bilingual/multicultural approaches, individualized education plans, and evaluation of child/family progress.
  • Work with parents to incorporate IEP/IFSP goals into the classroom.
  • Participate as part of the site team and work in conjunction with site staff for LPC, Team.
  • Actively recruit new enrollees for the program and maintain a waiting list.
  • Manage inventory and control of all supplies.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate records of children & families and submit reports/records as required.
  • Facilitate transition into preschool programs.
  • Proficient in utilizing various virtual platforms to facilitate seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Maintain child/family/staff confidentiality.
  • Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of a CDA with training and/or courses in Infant/Toddler. Associate degree in ECE or closely related field required; BA in ECE or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 16 credits of Infant/Toddler coursework.
  • Two years of experience working in Early Care & Education, Infant/Toddler experience.
  • One year supervisory experience and experience working with.
  • Application of the principles of early childhood development, management, and.
  • Computer skills in word processing, Internet, and e-mail.
  • Demonstrate strong team leadership.
  • Arizona Driver's License, proof of insurance, fingerprint card, Social Security card, CPR and First Aid, and as needed a vehicle for the program.
  • Health Questionnaire required at hire and updated every 3 years.
  • Meet all agencies, state and federal required immunizations or have an approved exemption on file.
  • Employee must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English. Bilingual English/Spanish skills highly desirable.
  • Food Handler's Card or Certificate within 30 calendar days of hire.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication with internal & external customers required.
  • Knowledge of Arizona Department of Health Services, Bureau of Child Care Licensure.
  • Ability to prioritize workload while being flexible; provide direction to parent & community volunteers; knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Ability to make frequent decisions to assure educational progress of children to meet school readiness goals.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency or crisis situation.
  • Ability to supervise children in a safe environment and apply early childhood development theory in daily activities.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of DCS reporting system, signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect.
  • Physical Requirements

    Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position: critical sensory requirements include general vision, specific vision abilities, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
