Position: Annually Contracted Faculty, Mathematics

Instruction & Student Learning

  • Teach assigned courses as scheduled and assume primary responsibility for and exercise oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring rigor and quality of instruction.
  • Design curriculum to foster talent in students while modeling inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Consider individual differences of students to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.
  • Participate in the identification of students with academic or other needs and respond by utilizing an appropriate resource.
  • Use technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicate clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, determine and submit grades timely in accordance with established policies and procedures, and provide feedback throughout the semester.
  • Create and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross‑college, and instructor requirements.
  • Participate in the selection of appropriate materials to support course curriculum in accordance with the College’s guidelines.
  • Conduct classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
  • Employ and assist in the design and development of appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals.
  • Act as a facilitator of learning in a virtual environment.
Student Engagement & Advisement
  • Create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, and academic challenge.
  • Maintain posted office hours in accordance with departmental and College policies.
  • Use technology to assist in communication with students and encourage a sense of community among students.
  • Advise potential or current students within the discipline about program, career, or transfer options to assist with degree completion.
  • Refer students to appropriate academic support services available at the College or in the community.
Continuous Improvement
  • Assisting, as appropriate, in the maintenance of instructional materials and laboratory facilities.
  • Contributing, as appropriate, to the development, selection, and improvement of instructional materials, laboratories, and other instructional facilities.
  • Providing guidance in the development, maintenance, and design of course descriptions, outlines, and syllabi.
  • Recommending modifications to the curriculum and participating in the design of new curricula.
  • Completing all mandatory performance evaluation measures within specified time limits and participating in required training.
  • Sharing best practices with colleagues in formal or informal settings and participating in institutional research to improve educational effectiveness.
Professional Development
  • Employ student, administrative and self‑appraisals to establish goals for professional development.
  • Contribute, as appropriate, to planning, evaluation, and/or presentation of college professional development programs.
  • Maintain required professional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate.
Culture of Respect
  • Foster and maintain a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.
Minimum Experience and Education Required
  • Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, or mathematical sciences OR Master’s degree in a related field plus 18 semester credit hours of graduate‑level mathematics and/or statistics.
  • One (1) year of teaching experience in the discipline.
Compensation Details

$64 per contact hour; two hours equal one contact hour.

Position Status

Full time (40 hours per week). Union (if applicable):
Columbus State Education Association.
