Job Purpose and Summary
At CVS Health, the Staff Pharmacist works in our retail locations to support the Pharmacy Manager and lead the pharmacy team. The role focuses on improving patient health through safe dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices while upholding CVS Health values of empathy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities- Act as the pharmacy manager’s proxy during bench shifts, directing workflow and ensuring compliance with safety guardrails.
- Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment, including coaching the team on pharmacy workflow procedures.
- Deliver compassionate patient interactions, resolve insurance or medication issues, and prioritize patient safety.
- Proactively offer and administer immunizations, engaging pharmacy technicians in training.
- Manage inventory best practices, especially cold‑chain products, to protect patients and the business.
- Ensure pharmacy operations comply with state Board of Pharmacy regulations, escalating issues as needed.
- Maintain a flexible schedule while contributing to a safe, inclusive team dynamic; write schedules when directed.
- Continuously update clinical and technical skills through required trainings and CMEs; pursue opportunities to expand knowledge.
- Provide pharmacist‑delivered clinical care (e.g., COVID/Flu, Hormonal Contraception) where permissible, empowering the team to provide holistic care.
- Comply with all federal and state laws, regulations, and CVS Health policies, including controlled substance dispensing and record‑keeping.
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Attention and Focus: Concentrate on tasks over time and pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
- Customer Service and Team Orientation: Actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner; recognize patient reactions and respond appropriately.
- Communication
Skills:
Use verbal and written communication effectively; practice active listening without interrupting. - Mathematical Reasoning: Calculate quantities for prescriptions, such as total tablets and daily supply.
- Issue Resolution: Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
- Physical Demands: Mobile and upright for extended periods; lift up to 20 lbs; use hand and arm motions; maintain visual acuity for small tasks.
- Receive detailed information through oral communication and convey spoken instructions accurately.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
- 1–2 years of related pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service experience.
- Willingness to work at other locations across the market as business needs arise.
Hours:
40 per week (Full time). Pay Range: $60.00 – $76.00 per hour. The base salary will depend on experience, education, and geography. Eligible for bonus or short‑term incentive programs.
