Summary Statement
The employee is responsible for accurate, verbatim stenographic (machine method) reporting of court proceedings, including trials, hearings, and conferences within the Court of Chancery. The role ensures timely preparation and delivery of transcripts, involves interactions with court personnel, litigants, and the public, and operates as part of a team under the supervision of the Chief Court Reporter in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
Occasional travel to Kent and Sussex Counties is required.
- Stenographic reporting of all hearings before judicial officers, and prompt production of transcripts as requested by the Court, attorneys, and litigants.
- Ability to work in a team environment to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the court reporter’s office.
- Graduation from a court reporting school or university program including courses in standard stenographic methods, English grammar and punctuation, medical terminology, and legal terminology.
- Possession at the time of hire of up‑to‑date Computer‑Aided Transcription (CAT) software capable of streaming real‑time over the internet using Bridge Mobile.
- Successful completion of the Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification from the National Court Reporters Association within one year of hire.
- Successful completion of the Certified Real‑Time Reporter (CRR) certification from the National Court Reporters Association within two years of hire.
- Ability to communicate courteously, effectively, and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work within deadlines to ensure prompt transcript completion.
- Use of Eclipse court reporting software.
- Experience as a stenographic reporter writing and transcribing verbatim proceedings of a judicial or quasi‑judicial nature.
- This position is based primarily at the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center in New Castle County, DE. Occasional statewide travel to Kent and Sussex counties is required.
- Fees for transcripts ordered by the parties and the public are charged by the reporter in accordance with the guidelines and fee schedule set by the Court.
- Transcript preparation includes extensive research of case citations, statutes, and specialized terminology.
- A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.
- Direct Deposit of paychecks is required as a condition of hire.
