Externship Overview
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of a veterinary practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Students will work with supervising Associate Veterinarians in a walk‑in clinic that handles a wide variety of cases, including wellness visits, injury and sick visits, spays, neuters, mass removals, soft‑tissue surgeries, and dentistry.
Responsibilities- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Create treatment plans and manage diagnostics.
- Assist in or perform dental services.
- Observe, assist, or perform soft‑tissue surgical procedures.
- Manage medical care of patients and practice communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externships at Lake Meridian Animal Hospital are designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students currently in the clinical portion of their education.
DetailsDurations range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend, with a stipend amount of $1,500 for Lake Meridian Animal Hospital.
