Summary StatementAs a Social Service Specialist III, you’ll help those who come in need to the Porter State Service Center. By conducting interviews to assess eligibility, you can help determine what services can fulfill clients’ needs – and approve for those services. You’ll ensure approvals are based on policy. Also at the center, you’ll promote effective public relations by providing information to individuals and the general public about the Division of Social Services.
EssentialFunctions
- Interview, assess, and advise clients to determine eligibility, needs, and course of action to meet needs.
- Provide phone counseling evaluations and crisis intervention to determine admission of clients to hospitals or other special treatment facilities.
- Document, verify, record, and report client information.
- Refer ineligible clients to appropriate agencies and resources.
- Provide coverage for other agency assistance programs as assigned.
- Utilize the resources of social services, other agencies, and community resources to address identified needs/problems.
- Maintain adequate records of provided services including case files and related material.
- Provide referral information to individuals and the general public, promoting effective public relations for the agency.
- Three years of experience in health or human services support such as interviewing clients and assessing personal, health, social, or financial needs in accordance with program requirements or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services.
- Three years of experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Six months of experience in making recommendations as part of a client’s service plan such as clinical treatment, counseling, or determining eligibility for health or human services/benefits.
- Six months of experience in record keeping.
- Six months of experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire, and report on data.
This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.
