Senior Scientist – TSMS Laboratory Lead
As Senior Scientist, you will lead the Technical Service Manufacturing Science (TSMS) Laboratory team at our Elwood, Kansas facility. In this role, you’ll be responsible for having direct reports, overseeing laboratory operations, optimizing monoclonal antibody (mAb) upstream and downstream processes, and driving technical excellence through departmental collaboration.
Your Responsibilities- Directly manage and develop direct reports within the TSMS department, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and professional growth.
- Lead the design and execution of complex Design of Experiments (DoE) to expand site control strategies and testing protocols for process characterization.
- Serve as a primary technical liaison across departments (Quality Assurance, Engineering, R&D), ensuring transparent communication and alignment on complex projects.
- Oversee laboratory maintenance, safety standards, and inventory management while representing the TSMS lab during internal and external regulatory audits.
- Education:
MS in Science, Pharmacy, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or Pharmaceutical Technology. - Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in biotechnology downstream process development or manufacturing technology with proven experience in people management. - Expertise in mAb processing and Design of Experiments (DoE) for control strategy development.
- Proven project leadership skills and experience managing laboratory resource allocation.
- Ph.D. in chemistry, engineering, or a biotechnology-related field.
- Subject matter expertise in monoclonal antibody (mAb) purification.
- Advanced knowledge of multivariate data analysis (MVDA) as applied to downstream process optimization.
- Understanding of USDA, FDA, and EU GMP regulatory standards for veterinary biologics.
- Proven ability to manage stakeholder expectations and lead through influence in a matrixed environment.
