Adjunct Faculty - Communications

Job Description

The Department of Arts & Humanities at Lorain County Community College seeks an adjunct faculty member for the Communication Studies program. Days and times may vary. Classes are delivered through a combination of online and in‑person platforms, with a primary teaching load of the Basic Oral Communication course. The successful candidate may also be considered for other Communication Studies courses as needed.

The adjunct faculty reports to the Dean of Arts and Humanities and the Communication Studies Program Coordinator. The position requires a thorough understanding of public speaking, communication theory, small group communication, and interpersonal communication. Classes are located on the main campus in Elyria, OH.

• Prepare and deliver lectures, and develop course materials such as syllabi and other documents.
• Grade student assignments and speeches, maintain attendance records, and complete course assessments for learning outcomes.
• Submit grades and other required documentation by specific deadlines.
• Be available to meet students outside of classroom hours.
• Attend the annual convocation and communication faculty meetings at the beginning of the fall semester.
• Use the online learning platform Canvas for grading and course information.
• Comply with all school, division, and departmental policies.

The start date for this position is the fall term, August 24, 2026.

• Master’s degree in Communication.
• Record of outstanding teaching experience in online and in‑person settings.
• Commitment to student success and submission of official transcripts upon hire.

• Teaching experience at the community college level.
• Familiarity with Canvas or other learning management systems.
