Elyria Catholic High School is seeking an engaging and student‑centered educator to teach Foods and Nutrition. The instructor will provide classroom instruction and hands‑on learning in the foods lab, helping students develop knowledge and skills for informed nutrition decisions, food preparation, and healthy living. Students learn to evaluate information on food technology, nutrition, and safety while building confidence in meal planning, time management, and responsible resource use.
Position OverviewThis part‑time role combines classroom instruction with hands‑on learning experiences that help students develop practical skills in nutrition, food preparation, and healthy living. Engaging lessons and food labs foster confidence and informed decision‑making about personal wellness and resource management.

Primary Responsibilities- Create an atmosphere in which students feel safe and welcomed.
- Use varied instructional strategies, including food labs, to assist students in learning and meeting course standards.
- Monitor individual student progress and provide feedback to students and parents.
- Support students with academic issues and encourage their success.
- Communicate necessary information to students, colleagues, and administrators regarding students’ needs.
- Collaborate with staff for the benefit of students and the school.
- Participate in professional development offered by the school.
- Shop and prepare ingredients and groceries used during labs outside of classroom time.
- Commitment to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and to best practices in Catholic education.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, or a related scientific field.
- Current Ohio teaching license or willingness to obtain certification.
- Energy and enthusiasm for working with and developing students for success in high school and beyond.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education.
- Successful BCI and FBI background checks and VIRTUS certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Knowledge of nutrition, food preparation, and healthy living concepts.
- Commitment to hands‑on, experiential learning.
- Dedication to supporting the academic and personal growth of all learners.
- Flexibility and adaptability in instruction.
- Commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Enthusiasm for helping students develop practical life skills and personal responsibility.
