Job SummaryAs a Mechanical Engineer, you will work with Automated, Semi‑Automated, and Manual Nelson Stud Welding systems. Your role will involve analyzing existing designs, recommending cost‑effective improvements, designing new mechanical systems, and supporting product launches through FMEA, DVP&R, 8‑D, and DFMEA processes. You will also provide technical assistance to manufacturing and repair personnel, coordinate with tooling suppliers, and use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to model systems when required.
Responsibilities- Become intimately familiar with the makeup and function of Automated, Semi‑Automated, and Manual Nelson Stud Welding systems; investigate and recommend cost‑effective improvements.
- Design, develop, and update mechanical systems used in company products and equipment for new applications, system improvements, and cost savings.
- Participate in new and existing product launches via FMEA, DVP&R, and 8‑D methodology.
- Utilize DFMEA to capture lessons learned for future usage and drive product improvement activities.
- Provide expert assistance to Nelson manufacturing and repair personnel for troubleshooting malfunctions in components and systems.
- Coordinate with mechanical tooling component suppliers to verify test and performance requirements, and assist purchasing and quality control in resolving technical questions or difficulties.
- Specify and build complete systems to meet customer requirements.
- Provide technical assistance in mechanical matters to internal and external customers as required.
- Utilize FEA & CFD to mathematically model systems as needed.
- Assist other areas as directed and perform all other duties as assigned.
- Travel up to 10% of the time, primarily within the U.S., with occasional global travel.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- 2+ years of related on‑the‑job experience in detailed mechanical design and development or applications development.
- Understanding of mechanical engineering theory and general drafting skills.
- Experience with electrical and mechanical system engineering practices.
- 2+ years of AutoCAD and NX experience.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor is a plus.
- 2+ years of Unigraphics (UG) design experience.
- Experience with PDM (PTC/Wind Chill) systems at user level.
