Screw Machine Operator

Job Description

The Screw Machine Operator is responsible for operating single- or multiple-spindle lathe type screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock. Duties include loading and unloading parts, performing basic part inspection with hard gauges and measurement tools, routine 6S, laboring on/off, transacting completions and scrap, part quality inspection using a CMM, changing broken/worn tools, performing minor preventive maintenance, following setup instructions to switch between jobs, interpreting CMM reports, creating CNC program offsets for shift/drift or tool length/wear compensation, and making basic CNC program changes.

• Read blueprint or job order for product specifications (dimensions, tolerances, number of parts, tooling instructions).
• Position and secure specified collets, bushings, and stock pushers onto the stock feeding mechanism and load bar stock into the feeding mechanism.
• Re‑sharpen (grind), form & shave tools.
• Add lube and cutting oil to machines and grease when necessary.
• Move controls to cycle machine through settings, stop machine and adjust tool positions and machine controls to allow operating factors such as timing, clearance between moving parts, and chip removal.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience in conventional machining and lathing.
• Basic understanding of surface grinders and ability to use surface grinding equipment.
• Ability to add, subtract, and convert decimals and fractions.
• Outstanding attendance.

• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
