Overview

The Lorain County Stormwater Management District partners with the different entities in Lorain County to develop and manage a cost-effective program to more effectively manage stormwater drainage and flooding issues throughout the County. The District works outdoors in ALL weather with possible exposure to biting/ stinging plants and insects. They perform outfall screening of pipes and ditches throughout Lorain County Storm Water District’s designated MS4 areas.

They properly collect water samples from pipes, rivers, streams, and other sampling locations as necessary as well as process water samples using laboratory equipment such as colorimeters, turbidity meters, beakers and other glassware. The District is also responsible for weed whipping and herbicide spraying as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Perform outfall screening of pipes and ditches in designated MS4 areas.
  • Collect water samples from pipes, rivers, streams, and other sampling locations as necessary.
  • Process water samples using laboratory equipment (e.g., colorimeters, turbidity meters, beakers, and related glassware).
  • Weed whipping and herbicide spraying as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old with a valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and basic mathematics skills.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and ability to multitask.
  • Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills with ability to work as a team player and take direction.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather for extended periods of time in many types of terrain.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, walk repeatedly for extended periods of time and lift and carry up to 40 pounds short distances.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled or recent graduate of a higher education program in Biology, Chemistry, Natural Resources, or Environmental Field.
  • Ability to read and understand maps/satellite imagery and compass direction.
  • Ohio Department of Agriculture Trained Service Persons letter. (Will train if required.)
  • Basic chemistry or laboratory skills.
  • Identification of native and/or non-native species.
  • Experience with field work and safety practices.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.

Hours worked per week will depend on weather and workflow but range from 25-40 hours per week;
Capped at 1,000 hours. Season Dates:
Approximately Between May 1, 2026
- November 1, 2026.
