Job Description
You are a Advanced Quality Engineer looking for an opportunity to grow your career, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in Elyria, OH, you will be a key member of the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team responsible for developing and implementing advanced inspection strategies and quality systems in a fast-paced CNC machining environment. This role serves as the technical lead for metrology, CMM programming, GD&T interpretation, process capability (Cpk), and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities.
Working closely with Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering, this position supports Design for Manufacturability (DFM), inspection planning, print reviews, and new product introductions to ensure robust manufacturing processes and product quality.
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for CMM programming, dimensional metrology, GD&T interpretation, and inspection methods.
- Develop, validate, and troubleshoot CMM programs and other automated inspection equipment for new and existing products.
- Review engineering drawings and GD&T requirements to develop inspection plans and support engineering print reviews.
- Partner with Design and Manufacturing Engineering to support Design for Manufacturability (DFM), new product introductions, and engineering changes.
- Perform PPAP inspections and develop inspection methods and measurement strategies for CNC machined components.
- Conduct process capability studies (Cp, Cpk, Ppk), Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies to analyze inspection data to drive process improvements.
- Investigate dimensional quality issues and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support quality planning activities including PFMEA, SPC, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate projects involving inspection equipment selection, implementation, and validation.
- Provide technical guidance on metrology, inspection methods, and quality systems to cross-functional teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
You are a technically curious and hands-on quality professional with a passion for dimensional metrology and manufacturing excellence. You enjoy solving complex problems using data, statistical analysis, and sound engineering principles. You excel at interpreting GD&T, developing robust inspection strategies, and ensuring measurement systems accurately verify product requirements. You build strong partnerships across engineering, manufacturing, and operations to improve quality, manufacturability, and process capability.
You take ownership of challenges, communicate effectively, and continuously seek opportunities to improve products, processes, and inspection methods.
- Four (4) year technical degree and three (3) years of related experience (intern/co-op experience considered), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with manufacturing metrology, quality systems, inspection methods, and dimensional analysis.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T.
- Experience programming CMMs (PC-DMIS/CAMIO preferred) and operating inspection equipment including CMMs, vision systems, optical comparators, height gauges, calipers, micrometers, and bore gages.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret dimensional data and process capability.
- Effective organizational, project management, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States (sponsorship is not available for this role).
- Experience with ERP and QMS software (JDE and EtQ preferred).
- Experience performing process capability studies (Cp, Cpk, Ppk) and statistical analysis.
- Experience supporting DFM reviews and engineering change implementation.
- Ability to evaluate engineering drawings for manufacturability and appropriate inspection methods.
- Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma principles and quality improvement tools.
