Metallurgical Lab Technician - 2nd Shift

Ohio Met is looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Metallurgical Lab Technician to join our 2nd shift Quality team in Elyria, Ohio. In this hands-on role, you will inspect heat-treated components, perform laboratory evaluations, and help ensure finished parts meet customer specifications and internal quality standards. What

You’ll Do
  • Inspect heat-treated parts to confirm quality and conformance to customer specifications.
  • Perform dimensional, hardness, microhardness, and microstructure evaluations.
  • Accurately document inspection and lab results in company systems.
  • Review part microstructures against reference images, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Prioritize inspection work to support production schedules while maintaining accuracy.
  • Communicate quality concerns promptly to supervisors, production personnel, the plant metallurgist, and the Quality Manager.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area while following all safety, quality, and documentation procedures.

Schedule & Work Environment
  • 2nd shift position; initial training may be completed on 1st shift as needed.
  • Ohio Met is a 24-hour manufacturing operation that typically operates six days per week.
  • Weekend work, including Saturday and/or Sunday, may be required based on production needs.
  • Work takes place in a manufacturing environment that may include high temperatures, frequent walking, bending, standing, and handling of metal parts.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Strong math skills and basic computer proficiency.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to make sound quality decisions.
  • Ability to work independently, stay organized, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and commitment to safe work practices.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous manufacturing, quality inspection, or metallurgical laboratory experience.
  • Experience operating a Rockwell hardness tester or similar inspection equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic sanding, cut-off, grinding, or sample preparation equipment.
  • Experience using manufacturing, quality, or data entry systems.
  • Previous experience is preferred, but Ohio Met is willing to train the right candidate who brings strong aptitude, reliability, and a commitment to doing quality work the right way.
