Job Summary
The Advocacy & Resource Specialist provides direct support to students by helping them navigate challenges that impact their ability to enroll and succeed in college. This role serves as a primary contact for students facing life issues or emergencies and connects them to appropriate resources and services. The Specialist works closely with faculty, staff, and community partners to ensure students receive timely assistance and guidance.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will consult with students experiencing personal or academic challenges and provide direction for resolving issues related to family, career, or emergencies. You will serve as the main point of contact for students with basic needs such as food, housing, transportation, childcare, and emergency aid. Responsibilities include conducting holistic intake assessments, determining resource connections, and facilitating referrals to internal and external support systems.
You will maintain a current database of community resources and prepare monthly reports to identify gaps and inform future partnerships and ARC service expansion. Additional duties include supporting the Holistic Student Services Manager in training and leading ARC colleagues, interns, and volunteers; participating in cross-unit meetings to improve processes; collaborating on student support and awareness programs; and occasionally engaging in public speaking to promote ARC services.
Building strong relationships with social service agencies and college departments is essential, along with advocating for students and ensuring accurate administration of emergency aid funds.
