The Estimator is responsible for leading a technical proposal team that responds to customers' Request for Proposals (RFPs), ensuring all technical requirements are covered in Beta’s response. The estimator collaborates with proposal managers, engineering departments, and vendors to deliver complete, accurate proposals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Read and understand project specifications to obtain a clear understanding of the project scope.
- Generate initial set of AutoCAD drawings to illustrate the size, scope, and context of the project.
- Assist the Proposal Manager in generating the commercial portions of the Beta proposal (e.g., bid forms, price summary, bid breakouts, option pricing, alternate bids).
- Request, evaluate, and clarify equipment, material, and labor quotes from vendors.
- Assist in developing and maintaining master spreadsheets of material and labor needs and pricing.
- Initiate a potential construction schedule using Microsoft Project.
- Coordinate with engineering departments for support with the proposal process.
- Assist in the organization and development of presentations for potential customers.
- Participate in department and pre-bid meetings as requested.
- Recognize and recommend methods to increase productivity and quality.
- Recognize and recommend methods to improve the customer experience.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
- Work closely with the Proposal Manager to build a complete proposal.
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
- Interact professionally with other employees and customers.
- Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethics in all client relationships and communications.
- Work independently while coordinating work efforts with others.
- Communicate regularly with supervisor about department issues.
- Vocational or technical certification or an Associate Degree in the engineering field (minimum requirement).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Civil, or Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Strong background in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
- Experience with AutoCAD preferred.
- Work in an office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, and other environmental hazards.
- May involve prolonged periods of sitting and frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Use of company vehicle on occasion; a successful Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) is required.
- Some travel is required.
