Bio Age Labs (BIOA) is finding new ways to treat disease by targeting the mechanisms of aging, with the ultimate goal of increasing healthy human lifespan.

We are seeking a skilled Research Associate I/II to join our in vivo preclinical team and play a vital role in driving our drug discovery efforts.
This role will initially be hired through our staffing partner, Qualstaff, and transitioned to full time employment at Bio Age between 60-120 days.

The Role: In this position, you will apply your technical expertise in rodent models to independently conduct key measurements for in vivo studies, generate critical data to evaluate our lead therapeutic candidates and advance our programs, and ensure the ethical treatment of research animals. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Emeryville, CA.

You: You have robust animal handling abilities and experimental skills honed through deep experience working with laboratory mice. Your motivation and organizational skills allow you to manage multiple studies simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. You are a team player excited to expand your scientific skills while contributing to groundbreaking therapies targeting aging-related diseases.

  • Independently perform dosing, blood collection, measurement, and clinical observation of laboratory mice to support in vivo studies.
  • Gain proficiency in or possess proficiency in-vivo technical skills, including dosing (IP/IV/PO/SC/IM/IT/IN), bleeding (submandibular/ submental/retro-orbital/tail vein/cardiac), euthanasia, and necropsy of laboratory mice.
  • Under minimal supervision, manage pre-study preparations for mice, such as shaving and animal identification (e.g., ear tag, ear notching, tail mark)
  • Collect and record relevant data, providing feedback to team members on the progress of assigned projects.
  • Maintain detailed records of measurements, observations, and other required data.
  • Adhere to animal welfare rules and regulations under supervision.
  • Monitor the health of laboratory mice, recognizing signs of disease and adhering to humane endpoints.
  • Participate in weekend and holiday rotations with peers.
  • Take part in vivarium maintenance, including restocking supplies, cleaning, and husbandry duties.
  • Help prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring inventory management.
  • Work collaboratively towards the goals of our therapeutic programs and may provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Train in advanced procedures and techniques as necessary.

Required

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong motivation and the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Organized and disciplined in record-keeping.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Skilled in IM, IV, IP, PO, SC dosing, and proficient in various blood collection methods (preferred).
  • Prior experience in reviewing and analyzing data from studies, including study design and management.
  • Familiarity with laboratory practices and equipment.
  • Some understanding of aging and/or age-related diseases in animal models is beneficial.

Education and

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related discipline with 1 or more years of experience preferred, or 2 to 5 years of hands‑on experience with laboratory rodents.
  • Pursuit or possession of AALAS certification (ALAT, LAT, LATG) is desirable.
