Job Summary

Provides direction, sets priorities, and analyzes workflow for subordinate revenue cycle activities, according to established policies and management guidance. Recommends, develops and implements new and revised procedures as needed. The Revenue Manager, under the direction of their Associate Director and Director, will provide daily management of Faculty Practice revenue management operations functions related to charge capture, coding, edit resolution, reporting, and collection of patient service revenue for assigned departments.

The revenue manager is responsible for day-to-day operational management of inpatient, outpatient, and related technical/hospital revenue cycle activities. Revenue managers will oversee daily activities responsible for ensuring that their departments meet revenue cycle targets, performance metrics, and engage in best practices. The incumbent will also work with various members of the Faculty Practice revenue management operations staff to ensure that new revenue-related projects are rolled out across their department(s), compliance requirements are met, unit initiatives are implemented, and cross‑staff/departmental training is complete.

The Revenue Manager will directly manage a staff of 10+ coding staff and will oversee processing annual charges of $1 billion+ million. The incumbent should be familiar with all applicable billing and coding regulations and be able to effectively communicate these regulations to all levels of faculty, management, and staff.

Department Description

Faculty Practice Management Operations (FPRMO) supports the Revenue Cycle functions of revenue management, charge capture, coding, charge edits and RFI resolution, supporting all UCSF Health facilities, 16 clinical departments, including over 55 service lines, and hospital‑based revenue for designated areas and service lines. Charge generation for the FPRMO is over $4.5 billion dollars annually. FPRMO supports Adult, Pediatric, and Network local and remote locations.

The impact of the revenue cycle work for this unit is felt by all UCSF Business Units.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area or four years of equivalent experience/training.
  • Five or more years of equivalent experience in hospital management, clinical practice management, or health care business operations.
  • Solid supervisory and organizational skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Solid knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to orient, train, coach, and monitor staff performance.
  • Strong communication, writing, and inter‑personal abilities, including skills such as attitude, diplomacy and persuasiveness, analytical ability, strong judgment and managerial skills.
  • Strong analytic and problem solving skills. An in depth knowledge of all facets of the billing and revenue cycle process; including a fundamental understanding of coding (CPT and ICD‑9) and documentation requirements (for both billing and compliance), the billing submission process, and the accounts receivable management process.
  • Knowledge of the federal and state Medicare and Medi‑Cal policies and how these programs impact billing and collections.
  • The ability to work onsite in Emeryville.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA, MHA, MPA, or other masters’ degree relevant to health care.
License/Certification
  • CPC or related coding certification preferred.
Salary and Benefits

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification  annual salary range for this position is $101,300–216,700, with a target entry point of $145,679+, depending on experience.
